Northeastern University in the United States is recruiting one postdoc and one fully funded PhD candidate.

Scholarship: Fully-funded
Degree: Bachelor, Master, Ph.D
Nationality: International Students
Location: USA
Application deadlines: Open

Scholarship Description:

We develop and use various computational modeling tools, including density functional theory, embedded correlated wavefunction theory, and machine learning, to design heterogeneous catalysts for energy and sustainability.

Dr. Qing Zhao graduated in 2012 with dual bachelor’s degrees from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Purdue University. In 2018, he earned a dual PhD from MIT in Mechanical Engineering and Computational Science and Engineering under Professor Heather Kulik. He then conducted postdoctoral research with Professor Emily Carter at Princeton University, a member of both the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering. In January 2022, he joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University as an Assistant Professor. His research focuses on first-principles methods, surface catalysis, and electrocatalysis. In 2024, Dr. Zhao received the NSF CAREER Award.

Northeastern University is a research-intensive private institution located in historic Boston, known for its beautiful scenery, vibrant academic environment, and good safety. The university consistently ranks among the top 50 in the US News Best Colleges.

Available Subjects:

  • Computational chemistry and surface catalysis.

Eligibility criteria:

  • We have one postdoctoral research associate position available, requiring experience in computational chemistry, electrocatalysis, and machine learning-assisted molecular dynamics simulations. Interested candidates should email Qing Zhao ([email protected]) with their CV and a one-page cover letter detailing their research background and interests.
  • We also have an opening for a PhD student in computational modeling of heterogeneous catalysis. Interested applicants should email Qing Zhao ([email protected]) with their CV and undergraduate transcript.

Application Procedure:

Interested students are welcome to send their CV and undergraduate transcript (for PhD applications) or CV and one-page cover letter (for postdoc applications) to: [email protected].
