Scholarship Description:
PI Linfei Li is seeking 1-2 highly motivated PhD students to join the research group in Fall 2025.
Our lab focuses on developing advanced construction materials (both cementitious and bio-based) and enhancing the durability of modern infrastructure, grounded in the mechanics and chemistry of materials. Current research areas include:
- Multi-scale, multi-phase THMC modeling
- Development of sustainable, high-performance, and multifunctional construction materials
- CO2 sequestration in concrete
- Additive manufacturing (3D printing)
We also welcome applicants to bring their own expertise and research interests, even if they extend beyond these areas.
Available Subjects:
Mechanics and chemistry of materials.
Eligibility criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, materials science, engineering mechanics, or a related field with a strong academic record and research experience.
- Solid understanding and hands-on experience with cementitious or bio-based materials.
- Strong skills in writing, verbal communication, and data analysis/statistics.
- Highly motivated, diligent, and proactive.
- Capable of conducting independent research and collaborating effectively in a dynamic team environment.
- Knowledge of programming (MATLAB, Mathematica, Python, C++, etc.).
- M.S. degree in civil engineering, materials science, engineering mechanics, or a related field.
- Proven track record of publishing high-quality peer-reviewed research articles.
- Proficient programming skills with a foundation in theoretical modeling and computational mechanics.
- Expertise in material characterization techniques (e.g., SEM/EDS, ICC, TGA, micro-CT, XRD, FTIR).
- Demonstrated experience with mechanical testing setups (e.g., extensometer, LVDT, DIC).
