Scholarship Description:

Dr. Bingchen Yu graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from Shandong University in 2014 and earned his Ph.D. in Organic and Medicinal Chemistry from Georgia State University in 2018. He conducted postdoctoral research at Georgia State University and the University of California, San Francisco, from 2019. In 2023, he joined the Chemistry Department at Georgia State University as an Assistant Professor.

To date, Dr. Yu has published 40 papers as the first or co-author in high-impact journals, including Nature Chemistry, Chem, JACS, Angewandte Chemie, and Chemical Science. His research has been cited nearly 2,000 times, demonstrating his significant contributions to medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, and protein drugs.

Dr. Yu not only excels academically but also shows exceptional mentorship qualities. He cares deeply for his students, providing precise academic guidance to foster their growth while also being attentive to their well-being. Whether encouraging them through experimental challenges or offering career advice, he fully supports his students. Notably, he takes the time to listen to their ideas and respects their independence, creating an atmosphere of free exploration in the lab.

Available Subjects:

Integration of AI with Biomedicine and Chemical Biology

  • Utilize expanded codon technology combined with proximity-triggered reaction mechanisms to achieve covalent cross-linking of proteins for in-depth studies of protein-protein, protein-carbohydrate, and protein-RNA interaction mechanisms.
  • Design and optimize small molecule probes to explore and elucidate the structure-function relationships of protein-protein interactions.
  • Medicinal chemistry focused on the development of covalent antiviral drugs and ion channel activators.
  • Design and develop novel high-throughput drug screening platforms.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Research applications of artificial intelligence in protein-protein interactions, drug design, PK/PD simulations, and protein-small molecule interactions.
  • Chemical biology: Use chemical tools to elucidate biological processes, develop molecular probes and novel drugs, and investigate the functional mechanisms and signaling pathways of key proteins.
  • Seeking master’s or undergraduate students with research experience in medicinal chemistry, molecular biology, chemical biology, or computational chemistry.
  • Preference for candidates with interdisciplinary research experience in chemistry, pharmacy, and machine learning, and proficiency in using models for various prediction tasks.
