Scholarship Description:

The University of Massachusetts Amherst, under Dr. Chang Liu, is recruiting postdoctoral researchers and PhD students for the Fall 2025 semester in the Biosensing and Biomarker Research Group.

Research Focus:

  • Development of point-of-care test devices and nanopore chips, as well as their applications in the quantitative detection of biomarkers.

The lab is supported by NIH and NSF, ensuring stable funding and excellent benefits. Available Subjects:

  • PhD student or postdoc: Development of point-of-care test devices.
  • PhD student or postdoc: Research and development of nanopore chips and devices.



Eligibility criteria:

  • Must have obtained or be about to obtain a PhD, master’s, or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, automation, electronic engineering, or a related field.
  • Should have one or more of the following research backgrounds and experiences: electronic devices, liquid handling devices, or assay automation.
  • Ability to communicate in basic English, summarize research data and charts, and write academic papers in English.
  • Passionate about research, detail-oriented, proactive, responsible, and a team player.
  • PhD candidates must meet: GPA of 3.2 or higher, and one of the following English requirements: TOEFL 80 / IELTS 6.5.

  • Must have obtained or be about to obtain a relevant PhD, master’s, or bachelor’s degree.
  • Should have one or more of the following research backgrounds and experiences: development and optimization of nanopore devices, optimization of protein nanopore stability, patch clamp technique, polymer synthesis, protein engineering, or polymer-protein interactions.
  • Ability to communicate in basic English, summarize research data and charts, and write academic papers in English.
  • Passionate about research, detail-oriented, proactive, responsible, and a team player.
  • PhD candidates must meet: GPA of 3.2 or higher, and one of the following English requirements: TOEFL 80 / IELTS 6.5.
